The pool season is starting and, with it, the expense of keeping it in perfect condition all summer long. Fortunately, we have some great ideas to save water in a simple way.
Most leaks have their origin, mainly, in the filter and the reason is none other than the lack of maintenance. It is already a world to think about being every day cleaning, purifying, measuring the ph … to enjoy the pool with your loved ones, as to add the extra expense involved in refilling the water Have you ever done the calculation of how much it costs to fill a pool of 50 cubic meters? Around 100 €, nothing less.
During the summer, the evaporation of water forces to maintain this expenditure, to which must be added the maintenance products. From Capcovers we want to give you some keys so that this summer you rethink to take measures to reduce the expense and make your life easier. Take note!
1. SAVES UP TO 70% BY AVOIDING EVAPORATION
The fundamental key to prevent the heat from evaporating the pool water is to install a pool cover. The price of a cover depends on some factors, such as:
- How long you want to extend the time of use of the pool.
- If the pool is being installed or you don’t mind doing the work.
- The comfort it provides.
- The aesthetic impact you want in your garden.
- The size of the pool.
However, in terms of savings, there are not many differences between them, as they all largely prevent water evaporation. Installing an automatic pool cover reduces water loss through evaporation by 70% and helps to maintain the temperature reached during the day.
2. SAVES 30% ON FILTER CLEANING
When cleaning filters we also spend on water, but we can combine the use of air and water in filter cleaning. Air and water can be combined by means of turbo-blower pumps, reducing water consumption for this purpose by 30%. This water can be used for other purposes by storing it in a tank.
3. SAVE UP TO 20% WITH A POOL CLEANER
Using an automatic pool cleaner saves more than 20% of water in the cleaning of the filter. These devices run along the floor and walls sucking up all the dirt they find deposited. They run randomly around the pool, without needing supervision. Simplify maintenance and let your pool cleaner do the cleaning job.
4. COLLECTS RAINWATER
It is a very viable solution to alleviate consumption. A rainfall of 10 liters per square meter, can mean up to 900 liters of water. You can install a tank to store rainwater and use it for other purposes such as cleaning the filters.
5. CHECK THE INSTALLATION PERIODICALLY FOR LEAKS.
Leaks can be easily detected by marking the water level in the pool with a piece of tape or an indelible marker and checking it after 24 hours. The pool should not have lost more than 1-2 cm. If not, there is a leak. Perform this operation once a week and to keep leaks under control.
6. PREVENTS WATER FROM FREEZING
If we take care of the water we can spend years without filling the pool. The reasons why the pool appears practically empty in spring are the lack of maintenance or the frosts, which produce cracks in the structure and, therefore, filtrations. One of the best tricks to avoid the wear of the swimming pool by freezing of the water consists of depositing objects of wood or plastic bottles on the surface. Another solution to freezing are pool covers, which regulate the temperature throughout the year.
7. GARDEN SHOWER
A lot of water is wasted every time we take a shower, so we should also change the shower and install a push-button showerhead, which wastes the minimum amount of water since it stops automatically. Carrying the water to a tank to take advantage of it is an option to complement.
8. A GOOD INSTALLATION
We have already seen how important it is not to have water leaks. In addition to everything explained, we must start from a correct installation, since a defective construction causes leaks in the pool, and with the loss of only one drop per second you will be losing up to 8,000 liters in a year. Imagine if there are two or three. Make sure you choose good professionals and good materials.
